Who You’ll Be Working With
A Customer Care Representative will be the first person you talk to about your project. To begin your job, call 800-477-5050. You'll get a notification number, which you’ll need during the process.
Shortly after your first call, the Energy Resource Center will call you back to get more details. This is so we can submit your job to the correct work group.
Your Project Coordinator will be in touch during many of the phases of your project. They will begin by asking detailed questions that will allow your service to be tailored to your needs. This ensures a proper fit into your area's energy infrastructure.
During the design phase the infrastructure around your property is reviewed. This allows us to identify the route for your installation. It will also help you figure out the size of the service needed, and order needed components.
During this phase, property rights researchers identify the permits, easements, and Right of Ways needed to install and to maintain your service.
Your Scheduler fits your project into our crew’s overall work plan, checks that prerequisites are met, coordinates support, and communicates about outages.
Forms You May Need
See the steps it takes to get new natural gas or electricity service installed in our New Service Roadmap.
What They Are:
Unlike the other forms listed, these are not forms provided by Consumers Energy. They are legal documents you need so we can install your new service through your or your neighbor’s property. Your Project Coordinator or our Property Rights Research Group will let you know which of these forms you need for your service request.
Learn more about easements in our Understanding the Easement Process document.
What it is:
A site sketch of your project. This includes any obstacles or items to consider as we plan your service route. For instance, septic systems, driveways, walkways, trees, pools, pole barns, drain fields. This needs to include features currently on the property and features planned for the future.

What it is:
If you have (or plan to have) certain equipment or appliances in your home, we use this form to demonstrate why you need elevated pressure for your natural gas service. There are a few reasons why you may be required to fill out this form. These reasons include having a natural gas whole house generator, on demand water heater or large furnace.

What it is:
If needed, you will use these forms to provide additional information on planned large loads on your service. This information allows us to provide additional analysis to justify installation of a more expensive, higher load service.
For instance, if your planned loads appear to be large, your project coordinator may inquire if you are using a three phase motor or welding unit. Installing three phase service is more complicated and costly than single phase service. In some areas three phase service is not available. That’s why it is crucial to document loads in detail.
What it is:
This form outlines the environmental impact of your project. It will state that there is no environmental contamination or describe the types and locations of any environmental contamination. Please note that if there is evidence of environmental contamination on your site when crews arrive your job could be delayed by months.
