Net Metering is available when you generate energy using eligible renewable energy systems. Check out the details in the chart below.
Net Metering Reaches Capacity: Consumers Energy stopped accepting new applications for its net metering program on Nov. 19, 2020. To learn more, send an email to EnergyPurchase@cmsenergy.com
If you’re interested in generating your own renewable energy at your home or business, Net Metering could be for you. As part of the Net Metering program, you’ll earn credit on your monthly energy bill for any excess energy you don’t use.
How Does It Work?
The energy laws passed in 2016 include a Distributed Generation Program that will replace Michigan’s existing Net Metering program on January 2, 2021. Under the law, the program will be accessible to customers with a grid connected generator that is sized up to 150 kW or 550 kW for a methane digestor.
