Apply NowAlready have a level 2 charger installed at your home? Enjoy up to 2,500 miles* of free driving by earning $10 per month for up to 12 months per EV.
To enroll in the program you must:
- Be a Consumers Energy residential electric customer
- Own/lease or have an EV ordered or reserved that will be registered to the primary address associated with the Consumers Energy electric account
- Charge your electric vehicle using a Residential Level 2 charger or 240-volt charging cable
- Charge overnight on weekdays between 11 p.m. and 6 a.m.
- Charge any time during weekends

Actual results will vary. The lowest cents per kilowatt hour after rate change is 14.8 during winter months, and 15.1 during summer months.
Program Details
As a Smart Charging Program participant, you’ll be enrolled in Consumers Energy’s Residential Time of Use Rate, specifically the Nighttime Savers (RPM_1050). This enrollment is a key part of the Smart Charging Incentive and will adjust your electric rate accordingly. However, if you’re already enjoying the benefits of the Smart Hours Rate (RSH_1040), there’s no need to switch rates.
We understand that sometimes you might need to charge your EV urgently. For that reason, our Smart Charging Incentive program allows you to charge up to three times per month beyond the required time frame, without losing your monthly incentive.
Your incentive will be directly credited to your Consumers Energy electric bill. If you decide to change or close your Consumers Energy electric account during your 12-month enrollment period, please let us know at powermidrive@consumersenergy.com. Please note, if the account is inactive during the credit payout period, the monthly incentive will not be processed, and your enrollment in the Smart Charging Incentive program will end.
