Public Charger Rebates

With the Consumers Energy PowerMIDrive™ program, commercial customers can earn a rebate of up to $5,000 for the installation of Level 2 charger on their property.

Up to $7,500 Rebate


You can qualify for a rebate of up to $7,500 for the installation of a Public Level 2 charger for a site location that will be open and accessible to residents of a Multi-Dwelling Unit such as an apartment building.

You can qualify for up to $5,000 in Public Level 2 Rebates for accommodation/hospitality sites where overnight charging is likely to occur (e.g., hotels, campgrounds, B&Bs)

To receive the rebate, you must:

  • Be a Consumers Energy electric service business customer
  • Install at least one Public Level 2 Charging Station from PowerMIDrive's approved list
  • Act fast to receive a rebate – the total number of chargers available is limited
  • Rebates are paid upon completion of installation. Limit one (1) rebate per site.
  • View PowerMIDrive's list of local sales and installation partners for each charging station network to get a quote for your project.

REBATE CRITERIA: LEVEL 2 CHARGING STATION APPLICANTS

  • Applicants must:
    • Install chargers within Consumers Energy’s electric service territory
    • Own, lease, or operate the site within Consumers Energy’s electric service territory
    • Install a minimum of two (2) Level 2 charge ports per site to qualify for a rebate
    • Achieve installation and operational status within six months of rebate commitment date to guarantee rebate award
  • Level 2 charger rebates will be reserved for commercial or industrial customers in the accommodation/hospitality sector (e.g., hotels, campgrounds, B&Bs) and multi-dwelling unit (MDU) locations where the charging station users will be tenants (e.g., apartments, condominiums, cooperative housing)
    • A total of 100 Level 2 rebates are available for the program, to include:
      • 90 Level 2 rebates of up to $5,000 per site for accommodation/hospitality sector locations
      • 10 Level 2 rebates of up to $7,500 per site for MDU locations
  • Rebates are limited to one (1) per site.


  • Agree to authorize Level 2 charging station’s network provider to share charger’s electric use data with Consumers Energy
  • Select and install Level 2 charging stations from the PowerMIDrive Program’s Approved List
  • Commit to digital or physical signage to create visibility and guidance for effective utilization of Level 2 chargers
  • Commit to providing a dedicated parking space for each charge port installed
  • If installing a separately metered Level 2 charger, agree to enroll on a commercial time of use (TOU) rate plan to encourage overnight charging
  • Agree to participate in Consumers Energy surveys related to its experience with participation in the PowerMIDrive program

  • Register for a new account to begin the rebate application.
  • Once registered, click on the box in the upper left titled “new commercial application,” complete the form, and click “submit.” You are not under any obligation to proceed with installing a charger if you decide against it in the future.
  • If your application is selected for a rebate, you will receive an email asking you to confirm your interest in installing a charger and receiving the rebate.
  • If you decide to move forward, you will receive an additional email outlining next steps, including charger and installer selection.
  • You are responsible for scheduling a date and time for charger installation at your site directly with the installer,
  • Once installation is complete, log back in to PowerClerk and submit all necessary information (i.e., picture of installed charger, installation invoice, etc.) to complete the rebate process.
  • Once submitted, we’ll review the information and confirm the charger is online. Upon confirmation, the rebate gets processed.
