You’ll be notified when an Energy Savings Event is going to happen.
The device will only activate during an Event. At all other times, your AC will operate normally.
Events usually last up to four hours. And when it’s over, your AC output will return to normal.
We try to limit the number of Energy Savings Events that happen each summer. In 2023, we only had one event.
AC Peak Cycling participants make a real difference by stepping up when the need is greatest. During an Event, together we offset the electricity equal to a small power plant.
AC Peak FAQ
Peak demand is the time of day when customers use the most electricity. This is most common during air conditioning season, from June through September, during the late afternoon (2 – 7 p.m.). Electric demand can also spike during especially cold days. Reducing energy use during peak demand hours lowers stress on the electric grid and shifts energy use to less expensive off-peak times.
Events are planned when energy use is expected to be the highest, is in short supply, will be expensive or in response to an electrical grid emergency.
Energy Savings Events are usually in the summer months of June through September. They are called during an electric supply emergency, or when we expect peak electricity demand during hot, humid weather. While there is no maximum number of Events each year, we try to limit the total to less than 10 Events. Back-to-back events sometimes occur when hot, humid weather is expected a few days in a row.
Most people tell us they don’t notice much of a change in comfort during Events. Many things can affect the temperature inside your home such as the temperature outside, insulation, oven use and more.

Opt-outs can be requested in advance or after an Event has already started. Opt-outs scheduled in advance will only count against your one-per-year limit if the Event occurs that day.
