Powering Up Together: How We’re Supporting Local Businesses with Sustainable Options

Powering Up Together: How We’re Supporting Local Businesses with Sustainable Options

boy blowing dandelionWe provide energy services to 6.8 million Michiganders – and with that comes the responsibility to protect the lakes, fields and forests that make our state a great place to live, work and play. We all deserve the goodness that comes from the beauty and diversity of our scenic landscapes, rugged trails and blue lakes, which is why we are committed to transforming our operations to create a bright energy future built on smarter, more efficient energy use.

At Consumers Energy, we’re working every day to power the businesses in our communities with locally generated clean energy. And we’re offering the opportunity for our business customers to join us on our journey to reduce carbon emissions and protect and preserve our home – for generations to come.

Our clean energy options support and help our like-minded business owners – our friends, family and neighbors – reduce their carbon footprint and use clean, renewable energy to power their Michigan operations.

Like Domino’s Pizza and Henry Ford Health.

Domino’s Electrifies Pizza Delivery

Electric vehicles (EVs) are turning a corner – and they benefit every Michigander whether they own one or not. They support Michigan’s economy through major auto investments and new job opportunities. They reduce driving costs and help keep the energy grid efficient with overnight charging. Our vision for EVs is simple – to support state and auto industry goals as we continue to power home charging with clean energy and build a solid infrastructure of convenient charging stations that span across Michigan. We’re also offering turnkey solutions for fleet owners who want to transition to electric through our PowerMIFleet program.

For Domino’s Pizza, making the move to an electric fleet just made sense. It reduces operating costs, eliminates emissions and simplifies vehicle maintenance. They are rolling out electric delivery vehicles across the country with no plans to slow down. Here in Michigan, we were able to walk them through the fleet transition process and provide rebates to help them reduce their upfront costs of installing EV charging at seven of their locations in our service territory.

Our PowerMIFleet program helps fleet owners with planning resources, expert guidance and financial assistance or incentives to easily and cost effectively transition their fleet. And for Domino’s, it was an easy way for them to save money and reduce their environmental impact, one delivery at a time.

Henry Ford Health Commits to Clean Energy

Like with EVs, we’re working every day to power our communities with Michigan generated clean energy and support businesses who want clean energy solutions that benefit their bottom line and the local communities they serve and operate in.

Michigan-based Henry Ford Health takes great pride in joining the clean energy transformation effort, recognizing the significance a carbon free energy future has on the well-being of their communities. As part of their continuous mission to foster overall community well-being, they have made a purposeful 20-year commitment. Through the Consumers Energy Business Renewable Energy Program, Henry Ford Health will match 100% of their Jackson-area locations' energy consumption with zero-carbon renewable energy. This commitment alone translates into an impressive 20 MW of solar capacity, which will significantly contribute to the development of our proposed 309 MW Calhoun County solar project, slated to become operational in 2026.

The Business Renewable Energy Program provides a local, cost-effective, flexible, turnkey solution for businesses to use solar and wind energy to achieve their sustainability goals and protect the planet for generations to come.

New commitments to this program from local companies, including Henry Ford Health, have allowed us to develop new carbon-free energy sources. Participation not only advances greening Michigan’s grid, but also supports Michigan jobs created through building and operating renewable energy projects.

Our Clean Energy Mission

Our Clean Energy Plan – and the clean energy options we offer to help meet Michigan’s energy needs – is a 20-year roadmap that will allow us to be one of the first energy companies in the nation to go coal-free by 2025.

The shift to renewable energy is necessary to protect Michigan’s natural resources. Our Clean Energy Plan ensures our ability to provide reliable and affordable energy to customers throughout the shift.

We are committed to becoming a force of change for Michigan – from the fundamentals to the future. While we make the big changes, learn how you can be part of something bigger and join with small ones of your own.
