How to Qualify
Be a Consumers Energy commercial electric or combo customer
Install any UL Listed, ENERGY STAR® Certified Level 2 charger (240 volt) with a minimum of two ports on 100 amps of service, or a minimum of five Level 1 charge ports (120 volt) on 100 amps of service
Agree to a separate meter and enroll on commercial time of use (TOU) electric rate
Agree to maintain 97% operating time of the chargers for the first 5 years of operation
Agree to deploy signage provided by Consumers Energy to desig-nate EV charging only parking spaces
Frequently Asked Questions
Businesses that provide overnight hospitality services to guests including hotels, motels, campgrounds, and B&Bs are eligible for rebates. In addition, long-term parking locations such as conference centers, airports, train stations, or ferry parking are eligible.
Chargers or outlets can be made publicly available for all EV drivers or reserved for destination guests only. With network-connected Level 2 chargers you can set per kilowatt hour pricing to help recover investment costs. You can also establish a permit system to set a fee for non-networked charger or charging outlet use.
Participants must install a minimum of two (2) Level 2 charge ports, or five (5) Level 1 charge ports on 100 amps of service to qualify for the full $7,500 rebate amount. The total rebate amount awarded may not be more than the total cost to purchase and install the chargers or outlets.
Any chargers that are UL Listed and ENERGY STAR® Certified qualify for participation in the Overnight Destination Charger rebate program. Level 2 chargers must not be more than 50 amps or 9.6kW of power per charge port.
There is no rebate cap per property, but the availability of rebate funding may be limited.
We require a separate meter enrolled on our commercial Time of Use electric rate plan (GSTU) to encourage off-peak charging when the cost of electricity and demand on the grid is lowest. See an overview of the GTSU Rate Plan here.
